Chris Van Hollen: Congress pride on the line
Deficit supercommittee member Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) said Monday that the panel wants to reach a deal to prove the country wrong about Congress being dysfunctional and said they would not be requesting a deadline extension.
Van Hollen said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe that there is “pressure from the country watching and [the] sentiment” that Congress can’t get anything done.
Those working on an agreement “would like to try to prove them wrong for the good of the country. Every member of the committee came to this task recognizing the huge obstacles, but they also go home every weekend and hear people saying they want to get it done,” he said.
